My editing bookshelf
Every editor’s bookshelf is unique, a reflection of their experience, interests and expertise. A science editor’s bookshelf will be vastly different from a fiction editor’s bookshelf, but they will still share some common resources. Here is a short summary of the books I keep close to hand, both in the physical sense with print editions, and virtually, with electronic resources.
What word for when?
Word lists are tools created by authors and editors to ensure correct spelling and word choice, and consistency of those across one or many documents. The purpose of a word list is to document preferred word spellings so that the author, editor, reviewer and publisher may refer to the list, as they might a dictionary, to ensure the preferred spelling is being used.
