Dr Joely Taylor is a freelance writer and editor. Dr Taylor graduated from Virginia Polytechnic Institute and State University in the United States in 1995 with a Bachelor of Science in Forestry and Wildlife. Dr Taylor embarked on postgraduate qualifications at the University of Melbourne in 1995, obtaining a Master of Wood Science in 1997 and then a PhD in 2000. She continued in research, working for the private sector as a development scientist for a timber preservative chemical supplier. Dr Taylor then moved into the government research sector with the Commonwealth Scientific and Industrial Research Organisation (CSIRO) from 2002 to 2012.
During her ten years at CSIRO Dr Taylor wrote and co-authored numerous journal papers and book chapters. She also has extensive experience in writing and editing reports for research organisations, government agencies, consultants, academia and industry. Dr Taylor is an experienced freelance writer, regularly publishing scientific and general articles in magazines and trade journals.
Dr Taylor's freelance editing business, Well Writ, was established in 2010 in response to government, research and industry demand for experienced technical editing and writing services.
Dr Taylor continues to expand her editing qualifications, having completed RMIT's (the Royal Melbourne Institute of Technology) Graduate Diploma in Editing and Publishing in 2012. She is an Accredited Editor (AE) with the Institute of Professional Editors Limited in Australia and an Editor in the Life Sciences (ELS) with the Board of Editors in the Life Sciences (BELS) in the United States. She is also a member of Writers Victoria.
Dr Taylor started the micropublishing imprint, Billycan Press, in 2014. Billycan Press is a custom publishing solution for nonfiction books and reports for clients in government, research and industry.
